I've been fat most of my life. I've dieted and exercised intermittently and lost and gain hundreds of pounds in the process. In early 2021, I suddenly realized that I was killing myself. Or at least allowing a slow death. I realized it in a way that shook me to the core. I knew I had to do something.
My "why" changed from being motivated by appearance to being motivated by a deep desire to stop pretending that I was healthy enough for a person of my age. I was on a dozen medications for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Not to mention medications for foot and leg pain. I had attributed it to "growing older." The inevitable. At 65 years old, finally my why became TO BE HEALTHY AT ANY AGE.
I decided to change my mind. Isn't that always the beginning of a life altering event? The mind has to change first. Our ability to change only comes from a deep motivation to facilitate the change!
So, I called a friend who was a Healthy Habits for Life Coach. I asked her about the program she had been on for over five years. I had watched her loose weight and achieve her health goals AND MAINTAIN THEM. I said I was in.
I began the program on March 1, 2021. Over the next 10 weeks, I lost 40 pounds. I was monitored by my physician over that period of time, and the outcomes were phenomenal even to her. She took me off two expensive diabetes medications and one blood pressure medication. More medication changes will follow. It was easy to make the decision to add Healthy Habits for Life coaching to my portfolio.
The program I’m using is a medically sound and sustainable way of living for the long term. Basically, it begins with a food plan that works easily to get the individual’s body into blood sugar balance, possibly for the first time in years. Once achieved, it feels fantastic.
You see, in the typical American diet, we focus on carbohydrates for fuel. When the body is burning carbs for fuel, it converts whatever excess carbs have been ingested into fat stores. With this food plan I was not ingesting so many carbs; therefore my body came into blood sugar balance and began to burn stored fat since it didn’t have sugar and carbs for fuel. The reason why there was so much weight loss within such a short amount of time was because my body was getting rid of the toxicity and garbage that I’d been putting into it and storing over all the previous years. With this program, the body adapts to this more natural way of eating, it gets rid of all the inflammation and other issues that were caused by all the processed nonsense and excess sugar and carbs we've become accustomed to eating and storing.
The new health habits that are being developed only begin with weight loss. They then naturally also progress to increased energy, better sleep and improved mental acuity. I’ve already experienced impressive results in all these areas! One of the things I love about the program too is seeing not only the immediate results, but also the sustained results. I’m meeting people who have lost their weight and achieved their health goals decades ago, and sustained them! This program makes me believe I would never need to gain the weight back or slip into my old unhealthy lifestyle again. And the testimony of people who have been in the program a long time and maintained their success makes me know it is possible! I’ll be doing this the rest of my life. My LONGER than expected life! I’m hooked!
